Summer Snapshots

It's Elul. Summer's almost over. Standing in the living room this morning, my husband blew shofar for the first time this season.

Over these summer months, I have been touched and inspired by:

The ability so many people I know have to communicate their pride and appreciation of Israel, of God and of being part of the Jewish people

The willingness so many people have to live in reduced material circumstances in order to feel closer to God

Actually feeling myself growing spiritually

The opportunity to step into unfamiliar homes and to experience Shabbat on someone else's terms

The emotional pull of weddings in Jerusalem

The emotions of visiting America for a family wedding

Celebrating with 351 new olim, the Prime Minister of Israel, Natan Sharansky and a thousand other Jews who take Israel as seriously as I do

The willingness of so many young men and women to come to Israel and serve in our army

The idea that Hashem is happy that His children are coming Home

Jewish babies being born in Jerusalem

Witnessing families being reunited in Israel

The way I cry more easily now because my neshama is more open

The unceasing desire to ingest more Torah, to feed my soul

Meeting Jews from around the world

Recognizing whatever happens as the price I pay for the privilege of living here

The feeling of being connected to so many people

I also mastered homemade chili this summer. That ought to pay off handsomely come February.

It's all good.

Ahhh, it all sounds very, very good. Thank you for allowing those of us temporarily stuck in chu"l to live vicariously through your uplifting "snapshopts". Wishing you a chodesh tov u'mevorach followed by a shanah tovah u'metukah.
